Conventional mattresses used on divan beds have the advantage of a divan base to provide support and structure to the mattress. Using this type of mattress on a bedstead can often lead to a compromise in sleeping comfort because the base support is provided by wooden slats. For this reason, Rest Assured developed the Classic Bedstead range, which don’t need a divan base to provide 100% support.

The Rest Assured Bedstead Classic 1000 is the entry-level mattress into this range, but it still boasts an impressive list of features. Built on 1000 Individually responsive single comfort pocketed springs, this is a perfect medium tension mattress. Special reinforcing under the spring unit provides the support normally provided by a divan base. This reinforcing meant that turning the mattress would be undesirable, so Rest Assured used no-turn springs and sumptuous natural fillings.

To compliment the obvious quality of this mattress, it is hand tufted with soft felt tufts and contains a side stitched mattress border for a traditional look and a supportive sleep surface.

I’m not a big believer in orthopaedic beds for bad backs. I’d have thought that lying on a rock hard bed would cause more back damage than good, but medical advice says otherwise, so who am I to argue?

To overcome my skepticism of firm tension mattresses, I decided to test our the Rest Assured Pocket Classic Ortho, Austen 1400, a 5FT divan bed that had been sitting in our demo area for a couple of months.

Remember, I’m not a fan of firm beds!

The Austen is, like all other Rest Assured beds, extremely well made. It uses pocket springs for it’s spring unit (1400 of them) and is topped with natural fillings, so it still feels soft even though it is firm.

Additional features include smooth silk and pure wool fillings, and the mattress is hand-tufted to give it that feeling of quality.

The mattress doesn’t need to be turned either, which is probably a good thing if you’ve got a bad back!

The big question: Is it comfortable?

Umm, yes. Surprisingly it isn’t bad. It’s definitely more firm than I’d like, but I still managed a good nights sleep and didn’t wake up with a sore back. I don’t know the science behind orthopeadic beds and how they can help people with back/spinal problems, but if they do help you, the Rest Assured Pocket Classic Ortho Austen 1400 is the perfect bed for you.

The Sanctuary

The Sanctuary is the entry-level mattress in this range, with 1200 pocket springs (for a medium tension), and a luxuriously soft pillow top.

The fabric used on this mattress is enhanced with natural Aloe Vera, a hypoallergenic solution that also protects against dust mites.

The mattress also features 2 rows of side stitching for extra support and does not need to be turned.

The Sanctuary Deluxe

The Deluxe features 2 spring units. The main support system uses pocket springs and is topped with a second layer of mini-springs. The total spring count on the mattress is 2400, 1400 of which are mini-springs.

The Deluxe features the same Aloe Vera cover as the standard Sanctuary, as well as side stitching and is a no turn mattress.

The Sanctuary Latex

The Latex contains an array of amazing features, including 2600 springs (1400 mini-springs and 1200 pocket springs), and a soft layer of latex foam.

The pillow top is luxuriously soft, and has concealed tufts for added comfort. This is a no turn mattress.

The Sanctuary Memory

The Sanctuary Memory is essentially the same mattress as the Sanctuary Latex, but it has a deep top layer of memory foam which moulds to the body’s contour.

The mattress features concealed tufts and does not need to be turned.
